Looking for a cheap Win audio recording tool that works with

I have an UASC-1 and some old DAT tapes I want to record purely digitally. It doesn't really work on my Mac and now I've got a Windows laptop for a few days and I thought I'd try it on that.

Does anyone know of a cheap (freeware / shareware) Windows (XP) recording tool that allows me to record from the DAT machine to files o disk?

I tried a few tools, e.g. "#1 Sound Recorder". I don't get any audio input there at all.

I know that the audio *output* works, because I can hear the Windows startup sound when I log into Windows XP.

So what I'm asking is which Windows audio recording applications are known to work with the UASC-1 with digital sources? To make it more complicated, I have some material on the DAT tapes that is recorded with the 32kHz sampling rate which doesn't seem to be used too often.

Hi,
The UASC-1 input source is automatically detected. Digital and coaxial inputs are seen as the analog input from the software side.
The digital inputs (coaxial and optical) are prioritary to the analog input.
You have to select the digital source (coaxial or optical) using the dedicated switch.
Regarding the soft you need to record audio, you will surely find a freeware or shareware at http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/AUDIO_RECORDING/
